​Welcome to the Hamilton City Schools!

Mr. Holbrook is currently concluding his 32nd year as an educator and instructional leader. All 32 years have been spent in either Butler or Hamilton County.

Michael received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and completed his educational administrative licensure coursework at Xavier University. 

Michael’s experiences include a decade teaching Ohio Studies, American Government, and Economics at both the middle school and high school levels in Cincinnati Public Schools. During his time as a teacher, he also coached high school sports.

After teaching for 10 years, Michael was promoted to the position of Assistant Principal at Western Hills High School and, after nine months as an Assistant Principal, he was again promoted to the Principalship. 

During his tenure as Principal at Western Hills, he led the high school through the process of transitioning a large traditional urban, public high school into a “school within a school. “  This concept promoted a smaller, more personalized environment for student learning in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Due to his leadership at Western Hills High School, Michael was again promoted to the Principalship at Hughes High School (the largest and most complex high school in Cincinnati Public Schools) and he was given the additional responsibility of overseeing 16 high school principals as the District High School Principal Coach.

During his leadership as principal at both Western Hills and Hughes High School, each building was recognized as a “School of Promise” by the Ohio Department of Education in both Reading and Math.

After 15 years in Cincinnati, Michael accepted a principalship in Lakota Local Schools.  As principal of Lakota Plains Middle School for five years, the school was recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for exceptional student growth on several occasions.

After 20 years as a teacher and building administrator, Michael worked in Central Office positions overseeing curriculum and instruction in both Mt. Healthy and Northwest Local Schools in Hamilton County.

In 2015, Michael accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent in Hamilton City Schools and served in that capacity until 2018 where he was named the Associate Superintendent of the district.

Michael was named the Superintendent of Hamilton City Schools in March of 2019.

Michael and his wife Jennifer have resided in Butler County for nearly 30 years where they have raised their two grown children.
