Garfield Salutes Our Veterans

Veterans Day

On the sacred day of Thursday, November 11 Garfield Middle School honored America's finest.  The Veteran's Day salute began with both our History Club and National Junior Honors Society hosting a breakfast for local Veterans.  Following the reception, the veterans were escorted to our gymnasium where they were welcomed with our student body rising to their feet and releasing an appropriate roar of appreciation as the Veterans entered and took their seats.  Mrs. Abby Jones and the GMS Orchestra class performed a beautiful rendition of American the Beautiful and our National Anthem, while Mr. Moore and the GMS Band delivered an exceptional performance of God Bless America.  A special tribute was given to our MIA and POW with a moving Missing Man Ceremony performed by our History Club.  Student presentations were capped off with Susan Sprague reading her winning Veterans Day essay.

Our students were then treated to an inspiring speech from J. Todd Smith who served as a state representative for Ohio in the 132nd and 133rd General Assemblies.
