The students in Ms. Mitchell's ELA classes have been celebrating African-American History Month! The students are currently writing research papers about influential African-American people in the areas of politics, science, literature, entertainment, sports and other aspects. Today's challenge was a Match-Up,Mash-Up! Students had a list of 27 famous African-Americans. Each group worked together to match the Icon with their contribution to history.
This activity exposed the students to some people they may have been unfamiliar with such as Elijah McCoy,Matthew Henson, Misty Copeland, and Shirley Chisholm (just to name a few). However, there were people that they knew as well such as Barack Obama, Harriet Tubman, and Ruby Bridges. Our studies continue to be an awesome learning experience!
