5th Grade Writing Project

Students worked for several weeks on a narrative writing project.  After learning about plot and fiction story structure, students developed an idea for their own short story.  The project was broken down into manageable pieces.  First, the students wrote the exposition.  Then followed with the rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution of their short stories. Students who were reluctant writers used Accessibility tools such as dictation (speech to text) to write their stories.

Students worked to peer-edit each other's work with a rubric.  Finally, students used Canva to design book covers for their stories.  This project gave even the most reluctant writers the confidence to call themselves authors.
