Garfield's Cafe De Books

Cafe de Books

Library Media Specialist Lisa Brockman hosted a "book tasting" event and transformed the media center into a French cafe, complete with table linens and lively French music.  Miss Maloney's and Mrs. Cotis' 8th grade English Language Arts students visited Cafe De Books and expanded their reading palates.  Readers were treated to a sit down "meal" where they were able to sample different authors and genres.  The Bread Basket and Appetizer courses featured short reads and "quick bites".  For the main entree, readers could choose from 4 different entrees.  Served buffet style, the Chicken dishes served up books about Interpersonal Relationships while the Beef selections allowed readers to taste Survival/Action/Adventure novels. The Seafood buffet featured Coming of Age Novels, and the Pasta bar showcased novels about Contemporary Teen Issues.  "Diners" rounded out their meal with a Grand Finale dessert choosing between chocolate Mousse Cake  (dating-themed books) or Apple Pie a la Mode  (humorous stories).  "I wanted to provide a fun way for students to engage with book titles they might not otherwise notice during a typical library visit,"  said Mrs. Brockman. Overall, students enjoyed the experience, with one "diner" exclaiming 'if you had a Yelp account, I would give Cafe de Books a 5 out of 5!'
