Cafeteria

All students are entitled to a free lunch and breakfast or they may bring a packed lunch from home. Lunches from commercial establishments should not be brought to school. Milk may be purchased, or a child may bring a thermos or packaged drink. No canned or glass bottles are permitted.

Children are discouraged from bringing candy in their lunches.

Applications for the Free and Reduced Priced Meal program are distributed to all students. Even though all Pierce Elementary students receive free lunch and breakfast, this form must still be completed.

Visitors

Visitors, particularly parents, are welcome at school. In order to properly monitor the safety of students and staff, each visitor must report to the office upon entering the school and sign the school log. If a person wishes to confer with a member of the staff, she/he should call for an appointment prior to coming to the building.

Students may not bring visitors to school without obtaining permission from the principal.

Homework

Successful homework practice is a shared responsibility. The teacher must make assignments of quality and quantity that assure worthwhile use of the time and effort of the student. The student must assume responsibility for his/her own learning, completing assignments in a timely manner. The home must support the student and teacher by providing both an atmosphere and a time for study.

Homework will be assigned regularly in the academic areas Consideration will be given to the student's ability, achievement level, grade level, experience and the nature of the class. Homework assignments will be considered in determining student grades.
