Freshman School Photos

Dear Parents and Student,

As summer break is quickly coming to an end, I hope you are getting excited about starting a new school year.  Many challenges lie ahead as you embark on your first year of high school!

To help ease your transition into Hamilton Freshman School, we would like to personally invite you to our Freshman Orientation and Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 2nd.  There will be two sessions offered that day at 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The sessions will contain a brief overview of information by the administration and counselors.  After the presentation, students will follow their schedule and meet his/her teachers.  There will also be an opportunity to find and open your hall locker.

We will mail you more detailed information about the orientation and your schedule later in August.  You will be asked to attend only one of the two sessions.  If for some reason you cannot attend at your scheduled time, please feel free to attend either session.

Online you will find bus schedules, supply lists and lunch prices.  If you do not have access to a computer, we will have this information at the school.  There will be staff to help answer your questions on orientation night.

Students report back to school on Tuesday, September 7th. School hours are 7:15 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

We look forward to meeting and helping you in your first step toward high school graduation.

Sincerely,

Greg Rulon
Principal

Freshman School Sports

The Hamilton Freshman School offers many sports throughout the year. We encourage all students to get involved in activities. The more involved your children become the better their freshman experience can be. We are fortunate to have dedicated coaches committed to getting the most out of your children to help prepare them for their high school careers. Our students also can participate at the high school, in sports not offered in our building. Make sure your son's and daughter's listen to announcements so they don't miss out on any opportunities. They can also find me, the Freshman Athletic Coordinator, to get information!

Parents, make sure you get a physical for your child. They cannot participate in any sport without one. We offered them free at the end of last year, and we will not have anymore free ones this season. Also, Pay to Participate fees are $75 per sport with a cap of $150. This fee must be paid during tryouts. Please get involved in your child's activities. Your support is what helps create successful programs.

Missy Harvey
Hamilton Freshman Athletic Coordinator

Thank You To Our Adopt-A-School Partners

Many of the activities that we do are supported by our Adopt-A-School partners. They help with awards, incentives, our student cookout and other events.

I would like to thank our Adopt-A-School partners for all their support this year. They provided personal and financial help with many of our activities. Our partners are: McDonald’s Levajo, Pepsi, Chaco Credit Union, Berkeley Retirement Community, Boyd Chiropractic, Copas Dentistry, and Greater Miami Valley YMCA.

Bus Dismissal

In order to maintain safety and insure that our buses leave promptly to the high school, students are asked to report directly to the busses after school. Once the first driver begins driving, they will close their doors and not permit any more students on the bus. If a student misses his/her bus, they must report to the office and meet with an administrator to determine transportation home.

Greater Hamilton Safety Council

The Greater Hamilton Safety Council in conjunction with the Hamilton Police and Butler County Sheriff’s Department will be providing a program called, “So you Want to Drive a Car” to our students on April 3rd. This program helps to educate students about laws, insurance, and other facts about the process of learning to drive as they begin to get their temporary license

Bus Passes

Bus passes for students who need to ride a different bus home will be granted for emergency purposes only. An emergency purpose would be defined as a situation in which the parent is out of town or there will be a lack of supervision for a child after school. Bus passes are granted on a limited basis due to the fact that many of our busses are at full capacity. State regulations and mandates are extremely specific about the requirements of transporting a child home. If a child does need to ride a different bus, the parent/guardian must write a note explaining the reason for the emergency situation. The written note must also contain the date of the needed service, signature of the parent, the bus number the student is needing to ride and a working phone number to verify approval. An administrator will call the bus compound to check bus capacity and find out if there is indeed extra space to transport. The administrator will then call the parent to notify him/her concerning the status of the situation.

testsTesting
Ninth graders do not have a state-mandated test this year; however preparing for and learning new information is imperative for next year when all students, as 10th graders will be required to take and pass the Explore test in order to graduate from any Ohio School. The Freshman School prepares 9th graders for the Explore by taking two district tests. The first of which, taken in September, Pro-Ohio, is a diagnostic test that contains questions from the Explore to help predict future scores on the Explore. It also gives detailed information to teachers so they prepare better, focused lessons to ensure passage of the Explore next year.

Scheduling Questions
After the first two weeks in any semester, students who drop a course will receive an “F” withdrawal grade. This is a mandated board policy for any high school course. Students who fail any courses will need to make those credits up in summer school or later in high school. Please know that scheduling changes are difficult due to limited spacing in the classes.
