Preschool learned about the Mayflower and made their own boats!

PreK

This week, Miss Hamberg’s preschoolers read a story about how Thanksgiving was started. We talked about the Pilgrims and Native Americans coming together for a feast and what it means to be thankful. We also learned about how the Mayflower was a boat the Pilgrims traveled on and made a list of items we would need if we went on a long journey on the Mayflower. Some items on our list included pillows and blankets, snacks and they were insistent on needing Hot Wheels for the long journey! We also challenged the kids to make boats in the science center that would float. Given recycled materials, tape, glue, and some helping hands, they created their boats! While testing them, we learned about the concepts of sink and float. We also discussed with each other changes we could make to our designs to make them float better or what worked well with our boat designs.
