In the months of October and November, ESL 5th and 6th graders learned about the migration of the monarchs. The monarchs arrive in Mexico on the Day of the Dead and many people feel an association with the spirits arriving in the form of the monarchs. Our students wrote messages to the dearly departed on the back of the monarchs in our display case. They decorated it with flowers and drawings. They made cultural and science connections to Mexico and the USA. In the Spring they will plant milkweed to help the monarchs and watch the monarch life cycle in action.
