Dear Parents,

This is an exciting time for Hamilton City School District; what a wonderful opportunity it is to have new schools.  In addition to the opening of our four new schools we are also continuing to plan and prepare for the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following practices to inhibit the spread of H1N1 as well as the seasonal flu and other communicable diseases.

  • Practice good hand hygiene.  Teach your children to wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.  Set a good example by doing this yourself.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.  This is how germs are spread.
  • Practice good cough etiquette.  Teach your children to throw tissues away immediately after use.  Your children will learn by following your example of doing this yourself.
  • Stay at home if you or your child is sick for at least 24 hours after there is no fever.  This means that the temperature is normal for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

Plan ahead for the following possibilities during the school year:

  • Childcare at home for your ill children or school dismissal.
  • Talk with your healthcare provider about protecting your children and yourself during the flu season.  Some children and adults are at greater risk from the flu.  Those persons with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and asthma are at greater risk from the flu.

We are all working diligently in the schools to keep your children safe and healthy.  Extra attention to cleaning of surfaces and good hygiene are in place.  Please continue to help us by encouraging these practices at home.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s principal or school nurse.

Sincerely,

Sharon Francis, Lead School Nurse

District offers program for social responsibility

The District has implemented four new programs during last school year: goal setting, conflict resolution, community service and character education. We are proud that we are educating our
students not only in academics but educating the whole child so that they give back to their community and will become better persons. These programs will also be enhanced this school year as we work with our students on social responsibility.

construction to generate economic activity for city

Did you know that the construction of the eight new elementary schools will
generate more than $2.3 million in new income taxes over the next four years?
The Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce estimates that the investment in the community will generate approximately $350 million in total economic activity! The district is excited to help in the revitalization of our great city!

Veteran's Day 2009On November 11th, we celebrated Veterans Day, a day where we honor all of those who have served our nation and protected our freedoms in armed forces. Across America, people took part in a variety of patriotic ceremonies and military tributes. In schools, students, teachers, and administrators conducted “flag raising ceremonies, assemblies, and lessons that emphasizde veterans and their role in our history.” Watch how our students honor our Veterans.
