All students will be registered at buildings through on-site registration. Secretaries will copy both sides of any student registration forms with a language other than English listed as an answer to any of the questions on the top of the form. Put copies in your building’s ESL teacher’s mailbox or fax to Instruction (868-4470) if no assigned ESL teacher.
Newcomer Spanish students who speak little or no English may be enrolled at Jefferson or Garfield ESL Magnet programs although they do not live in those attendance areas, upon approval from Instruction. Send “ESL Priority Assessment Request” to Instruction.
All students with a language other than English will be tested by ESL staff with the LAS or PreLAS English Language Proficiency Test within 2 weeks of registration. Student performance on the test will determine identification as LEP or not, and amount of ESL service.
NOTE: School Secretary will enter student’s “Native Language,” birthplace city, and ethnicity listed on student registration form in DASL.
Susan Bachmann will enter LEP status in DASL after notice from Instruction.
