A revision of services offered to identified gifted students of Hamilton City Schools was developed in response to the Ohio Revised Code 3324.01-.07
As an implementation for the Policy and Plan for the Identification of Students who are Gifted, our district has focused on integrating a model of services which intends to meet the needs of all students for talent development. In accordance with the Policy and Plan, Hamilton students are identified as gifted in superior cognitive, specific achievement in the academics of reading, math, science, social studies, creative thinking, and visual and performing arts.
A continuum of services provides experiences designed to meet educational goals identified on each student written education plan.
Elementary School Services
Intermediate Elementary
Students of grades 4, 5 and 6 are afforded the same inclusionary support as the primary grade model with additional direct services. Students are placed in gifted clusters for academic subjects with the exception of math. A gifted intervention specialist meets daily for advanced rigorous math curriculum classes for the math and superior cognitive identified students. Language arts classes are also a gifted supported foundation with a rigorouscurriculum designed with higher order thinking and problem solving components. Curricula are aligned with grade level state standards and infused with technology, units of study from the College of William and Mary, study trips and strategies of interpretive questioning and shared inquiry from the Great Book Foundation.
A rigorous core curriculum is the foundation of the services available for gifted students at the Elementary level.
